Day 10 – Daily Devotional – January 14, 2025 – Repenting For Sin
READ
1 John 1:6-9 If we say, “We have fellowship with Him,” and yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. If we walk in the light as he Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
EXAMINE
Hello, Bethel Authentic faith is based solely on a relationship with God. If we profess to have that relationship, then we must abide by the mandates God lays out for us. God is light; anyone that remains in darkness does not have fellowship with Him. It’s impossible to walk in both darkness and light, yet at times we do exactly that; willfully committing sin while professing to be pure as the wind driven snow. Walking in the light means actively allowing the Holy Spirit to shine His light…into our darkness and making the changes accordingly. We can’t be casual about holiness; we must put in real effort to be pure and holy in a dark, dark world.
APPLY
Our daily practice as believers should be to allow the Holy Spirit to evaluate the thoughts and behaviors in our lives that are contrary to the character of God and His righteous standards. “Walking in the light” means we repent daily with determination to remove anything that would separate us from the Father. And we need to repent quickly, lest we continue on with our day and allow that sin to slide, thinking it’s no big deal. When we don’t slow down enough for self evaluation, it’s easy for the busyness of life to cloud our relationship with the Lord. But when we do allow our lives to be examined and we don’t deny or try to hide our sin, but instead, repent from that sin, something wonderful happens. Power for change is released in lives so that we don’t continue to commit that sin. And another benefit comes from repentance; sweet fellowship with God is restored.
PRAY
Pray this powerful prayer that David prayed in Psa 139:23-24 “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
